Rite of Strings, a New York-based quintet that brings together an Iranian, a Peruvian, two Turks, and a Macedonian, and has yet to release its first album.

At the forefront is composer Ehsan Matoori, who plays the santur, the ancient Persian instrument that is a direct relative of the piano, alongside bassist Edward Perez and drummer Engin Kaan Günaydın, both Grammy winners, violinist Eylem Basaldı, and guest clarinetist Ismail Lumanovski.

Their debut album, Dust and the Moon, will be released on August 28 by Bright Shiny Things and presented live on September 30 at Joe’s Pub in New York.
