decoda
Release Date: May 10, 2024
The debut album from Decoda, the affiliate ensemble of Carnegie Hall, marks the 10th anniversary year for this collective of virtuoso chamber musicians that has been praised by the New York Times as “refreshing in the extreme” and by luminary Eric Booth as “the ninja musical artists the 21st century requires". To celebrate a decade of eclectic and thoughtful concert experiences, Decoda curates a characteristically stimulating listening experience with its first recorded statement, assembling a program around the feeling, idea and complexity of ‘revelry’. The album’s title work, Revelry by Valerie Coleman, was commissioned for Decoda and gives inspiration for the program as a whole. Each work, ranging from the 19th century to the present day, revels in its own way— whether in the celebratory sense, the darker, more demonic sense, or in the many ambiguous shades between. In addition to the world premiere recording of Coleman’s Revelry, Decoda plays its own arrangements of Rags by William Bolcom and Reza Vali’s Folk Songs Set no. 9. The Decoda ensemble members featured on this debut album comprise an all star cast of chamber musicians and soloists, including GRAMMY winners and nominees.
